A Feminist Urbanist Perspective

Hello folks,

Before we jump in, a quick housekeeping note: If you haven’t already, please consider subscribing to our podcast on YouTube. Your support helps amplify our work!

The Politics of Silence (and Space)

It is easy to mock the contradictions of Trump voters facing “leopards eating my face” moments, but there’s a deeper reckoning underway. Many who once saw themselves as “apolitical” are now confronting the vital role of federal governance—and how the sentiment of “States’ Rights,” a doctrine born from chattel slavery, continues to shackle progress— for everyone!

Urbanism is inherently political. That’s why I embrace the label Feminist Urbanist: it refuses neutrality. The urban landscape—like identity—is never apolitical. “Women,” “Black,” “transgender”—these are not neutral categories. As Audre Lorde reminds us, “Your silence will not protect you.”

Libertarian House on the Prairie: The perfect reboot for the current day
Netflix has greenlit a new TV adaptation of “Little House on the Prairie,” the beloved book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. —Variety, January 2025 “Little House on the Prairie” by Laura Ingalls Wilder is a classic, award-winning children’s book that is a staple of grade school and junior

In urbanism and journalism, shrinking ourselves—whether by clinging to “pragmatic” solutions or avoiding spinose truths—is not safety. True neutrality under hegemony demands complicity and submission. Here, we will neither submit nor comply.
